Product Counsel at Snapchat

Snap Inc. is a camera company. We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Our products empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.

We’re looking for a Lawyer to join Snap Inc! Working on the growing Privacy and Product Legal team, you’ll delve deep into the engineering and design space to guide the development of new products and technologies. We’re looking for someone who can review design concepts, flag legal issues, and loop in the right colleagues to assess them. Your ability to connect the dots across legal disciplines is critical, as you’ll work to understand technologies that didn’t exist yesterday, and determine how they might be regulated tomorrow. Your work will play a critical role in determining what Snap Inc. looks like one, three, and five years into the future.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work closely with the Engineering, Product, Design, and Content teams to understand and assess new products and technologies from early development stages through launch
  • Analyze potential legal risks and regulatory requirements applicable to new products and technologies
  • Work with Legal colleagues to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Help scale the Legal team, and develop new processes to support the Engineering, Product, and Design teams as they grow quickly
  • Help Privacy Counsel with due diligence in M&A transactions
  • Work with the Engineering, Design, Advertising, Communications, and Customer Operations teams to develop public-facing descriptions of new products and technologies

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone with a JD and excellent academic credentials
  • Membership in at least one state bar (CA or NY preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience practicing law (in-house experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience across a range of legal disciplines (IP, privacy, media, communications law) preferred
  • International, ad tech, and hardware product experience a plus
  • Someone who can quickly understand new areas of law and tech
  • Excellent legal and business judgment, as well as strategic thinking and drafting skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across the company on complex, multifaceted issues
  • A detail-oriented, business-friendly team player who has the ability to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently
