The Procurement Manager’s role is to plan, execute and finalize purchasing and procurement strategies for spend across the organization. This includes procurement of raw materials, component parts, equipment, supplies and services. This position requires strong leadership, communication, negotiating and multitasking skills with a strong collaborative and customer service focus.


Responsibilities

 

The Procurement Manager will be responsible for the following functions:

 

• Interface with department managers to plan and prioritize purchasing activities.
• Contribute to the buildout of an expanded supplier base, especially in regards to machine and fabrication shops and establishing a preferred vendor list.
• Advise other employees in the proper method to conduct negotiations and analyze results relating to purchase orders, goods and service agreements, tendering and contract development.
• Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions of sale, and warranties of goods and products with key suppliers and vendors.
• Address rejections, dispositions and adjustments of purchased goods or materials not meeting required specifications.
• Ensure competitive bidding and contract development activities are conducted in an ethical and legal manner.
• Develop and implement strategies and programs that support supplier performance improvements, which include improvements in quality, delivery, service, product standardization and customer support.
• Ensure compliance to purchasing agreements, policies and procedures.
• Manage the risk to schedule and quality of procured parts and assemblies.
• Design and implement procurement processes, and systems for efficiency, scale, flexibility and risk management.
• Monitor and analyze trends in company spending and inventory control in order to make recommendations for the future and to identify areas for possible savings.
• Be committed to continuous improvement by identifying and leading process improvement opportunities for purchasing, contract management, supplier selection and sourcing by partnering with key business stakeholders.
• Work closely with internal customers to ensure processes are aligned to business needs to provide a high level of customer service.
• Build, organize and manage the Procurement Team in accordance with good business practices.

 

Qualifications

 

Formal Education

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering or Supply

 

Knowledge & Experience

• 5 - 7 years of direct work experience in a purchasing or procurement capacity.
• 3-4 years of experience in a supervisory / management role.
• Experience in automotive or aerospace industries with knowledge of manufacturing of industrial equipment.
• The ability to read and interpret engineering product drawings would be preferred.
• Experience in sourcing from machine shops, process vendors and industrial suppliers.
• Familiarity with quality standards (i.e. ISO, AS).
• Experience in implementing operational improvements through automation and process redesign.
• Demonstrated ability to think globally and strategically, influencing change across the organization.

Work Conditions

• Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
• Some travel may be required for meeting with vendors, suppliers, service providers, or offsite contractors.
• Physically able to participate in meetings, presentations and training sessions.
