The Power Electronics division is responsible for the design and development of the Hyperloop One Propulsion System. This includes the propulsion motor, power electronics, high power solid state switches, controllers and system algorithms, and supporting systems. These components combine electromagnetic, electric circuit, mechanical, thermal, control, and embedded software sub-systems. We are seeking candidates with broad skill-sets and various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility.

 Multiple positions are available.

THE ROLE (what you are accountable for)

  • Creating and maintaining models/drawings in Unigraphics NX
  • Designing components and systems for various Propulsion related sub-systems including the propulsion motor, motor drive, control assemblies and mechanical support structures
  • Analysis and verification of preliminary and detail design with hand calcs and FEA
  • Working with internal teams and external vendors to ensure timely completion of functional hardware

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. in Engineering or related discipline, MS preferred
  • Utilizing engineering principles to design complex systems
  • Proficiency in Siemens Unigraphics NX 6 or higher or similar CAD software
  • Proficient in GD&T
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Design of large, complex assemblies
    • Design of Power Electronics
    • Design of small, compact, complex electronic assemblies
    • Manufacturing and fabrication methods including injection molding, welding, VPI or potting
  • Experience developing a product from concept to production 
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Usage of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, such as Teamcenter

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Thermal analysis of control or electrical components
  • Complex or dynamic structural analysis
  • Routing cabling/piping
  • Pure water or high voltage DC liquid cooling systems
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • Structures/Electrical civil code requirements
