THE PURPOSE:

As the Engineering CAD Manager, your role is ensuring the maximum efficiency of the CAD system. One of the primary areas of responsibility is the configuration and integration of large Hyperloop assembly and sub-assembly CAD models. The CAD Manager is a key contributor with advanced experience and competence in CAD and has a responsibility to the overall engineering design process and drafting efforts.

 The candidate will work collaboratively and interface with multiple engineering groups to generate optimized design solutions. The candidate must be able to work both independently and as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Prepare technical presentations in support of design and development activities. Have familiarity with vehicle structures, subsystems, support equipment, test and instrumentation, and manufacturing methods and be able to work design issues under minimal supervision.

THE ROLE:

  • Responsible for Program CAD Management – both internal R&D and commercial programs
  • Will be the top-level model owner and will ensure top level models are accurate and up to date
  • Work with all engineering groups to ensure parts fit together and are configured properly at the system level including part numbering and assignment
  • Coordinate model integration and manage the top levels of the BOM for development and production models
  • Work with multiple disciplines of engineering to provide unique features at the top levels including wire routing and plumbing layouts, and other high level schematic data.
  • Control release at this level, ensuring quality models that have correct geometry and correct clearances, and buy off from multiple groups.
  • Complete package design reviews – clean sheet concept through to production
  • Implement document management system that controls access to drawing files
  • Implement a change management system so that everyone knows which version of the drawing is most recent
  • Create CAD standards and standardized templates with symbols, title blocks, borders, and then making them available to all drafting stations from a central location
  • Manage 2D & 3D checking and approval

CANDIDATE PROFILE: 

Successful candidate must have strong CAD background and extensive hands on user experience:

  • Drawing and editing commands, and techniques
  • Plotting and archiving drawings files
  • Customizing and programming
  • Translation to and from other CAD systems, and data formats
  • Understanding software related to CAD, such as databases and VBA programming

Must be able to ease changes to CAD drawings by carefully planning the process and keeping everyone informed. Above all, the goal of this role is to make it more efficient to get work done.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Must have proven track record of successfully managing CAD models on large complex production system such as a car, aircraft, space craft etc.
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience with Large Assembly Modeling
  • Experience managing very large CAD models
    • High Part Count
    • Critical Positioning of components
    • Memory management
    • Lightweight model experience
    • Wave Linker Experience
    • Cable routing and wire pathing
  • ASME Y14.5 Drafting Skills
  • Expert level NX modeler / Assembly manager
  • Strong GD&T knowledge
  • Wire routing and plumbing experience
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
  • Leadership, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to dialogue, negotiate, influence and work with other collaboratively and constructively

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Experience with model rendering a plus
  • Aerospace design process familiarity
  • Aerospace/automotive background preferred
