We’re looking for a Commercial Counsel to join Snap’s Content legal team! Working from our Venice, CA headquarters, you’ll collaborate with colleagues throughout the company to bring world-class content to Snap users. You’ll play a key role in structuring, drafting, and negotiating a variety of content acquisition contracts for Our Stories, Publisher Stories, and Shows, as well as crafting content policy across our products.
What you’ll do:
- Draft, negotiate, review, and interpret agreements for content products and initiatives including Our Stories, Publisher Stories, and Shows
- Review original content and marketing productions to ensure they comply with copyright, trademark, defamation, and right-of-publicity law, along with regulatory rules from agencies like the FTC and FCC
- Assist the Content legal team in developing Snap’s worldwide content policies and guidelines
- Manage multiple deals and projects simultaneously and support colleagues to make sure that business initiatives are achieved timely and accurately
- Advise business clients on company policies, business strategy, and legal issues and risks
- Assist in creating and improving agreements, templates, and policies for Snap as we develop new products and enter new international markets
- Exercise sound judgment when negotiating key business and legal terms
- Collaborate with outside counsel, when necessary
What we’re looking for:
- J.D. degree and membership in California or New York state bar
- 5+ years of practicing law in-house or at a top-tier law firm, including experience negotiating with media rights holders in the television, sports, and music industries
- Substantial experience with First Amendment principles and regulatory compliance (e.g., FTC and FCC)
- 1+ years of in-house experience handling commercial transactions, including content licensing (ideally at an internet or technology company)
- Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, negotiation, and drafting skills
- Excellent legal and business judgment, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
- A detail-oriented and business-friendly team player
- Someone who can communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Ability to accommodate tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A strong work ethic and the ability to work independently
- Ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly
- A whip-smart individual who doesn’t take themselves too seriously!
