Santa Monica-based BOT Home Automation raised $4.3 million yesterday from undisclosed investors to power its WiFi-enabled, video doorbell product. The product, dubbed DoorBot, streams live video of a home’s doorstep directly to a resident’s device so the resident can see and talk to their visitors. Yes, that means DoorBot users can see whether the knock on the door means a pizza delivery or an annoying neighbor.

BOT Home Automation provides users more than just a convenience factor; it classifies itself as a security startup because of DoorBot’s obvious security benefits like awareness of unwanted visitors. But DoorBot also takes security a step further with the option to integrate DoorBot with Lockitron, which allows users to lock and unlock doors remotely through the app.

As connected devices and smart home morph from investor-worthy buzzwords to multi-billion dollar industries, BOT Home Automation is looking to be at the forefront of the pack with the world’s smartest doorbell, CEO and Chief Inventor James Siminoff said.

Siminoff is also the founder of Unsubscribe.com, PhoneTag and NobelBiz and is the current CEO and founder of Santa Monica design lab EdisonJr.
