LA tech startups raised $112.3M this week

After a successful 2016, 2017 is sure off to a good start. This week was a particularly busy week for local tech startups, with five companies combining to raise a total of $112.3 million. Check out all the news below.

 

Skurt, an on-demand car rental service headquartered in Culver City, got the action started on Tuesday morning with the news that the company had closed a $10 million Series A. The startup plans to use the funding to continue to grow its team and to expand to a number of new markets in the US. Currently, the company is active in Los Angeles, San Diego and Miami. Santa Monica-based Tala closed a long-awaited Series B this week, bringing in $30 million to continue its global expansion plans. The startup, which helps users in emerging economies to develop credit scores and grow their credit, also plans to use the funding to fuel its local hiring initiatives. [Bult In LA

 

After spending nearly two years in a sort of stealth mode, Clark Landry has emerged with a new project. The prolific angel investor and startup founder will act as COO for Century City-based Maple Media, a startup that acquires, manages and operates mobile applications in a number of verticals. Co-founded by Landry and CEO Michael Ritter, the company also announced it had raised $30 million in private equity from Shamrock Capital Advisors to help the company acquire apps. [Bult In LA

 

Retail software developer MomentFeed joined the funding frenzy this morning with news that the company had raised $16.3 million. The Santa Monica-based startup plans to use the funding to grow its team of engineers, as well as adding to its sales force. [Bult In LA

 

AirMap, an airspace management platform for drones, announced the addition of a $26 million Series B funding as the company expands to Mountain View and Berlin. [Bult In LA
