3 LA companies make CNBC's "Disruptor 50 List"

Now in its third year, CNBC's "Disruptor 50 List" highlights privately owned companies that are drastically altering the business world. This year’s list spans 16 industries, from bio science and clean energy, to ridesharing and fantasy sports. Three Los Angeles-based companies made the cut:

#50 Snapchat

The image-sharing platform has evolved drastically over the past two years. After refusing Facebook's $3 billion offer, Snapchat has increased its worth to $15 billion and shows no signs of slowing down. The app has now extended its reach to Hollywood with the recent announcement that they will be filming a show starring Sofia Vergara.

#37 Dollar Shave Club

The razor supplier has come a long way from its original, extremely viral commercial. Providing an easy alternative for men's shaving products seems like a simple idea in retrospect, but Dollar Shave Club capitalized on the opportunity and continues to expand its customer base.

Bested only by Moderna Therapeutics (a revolutionary biotechnology company), SpaceX lands at the number two spot on the list. While currently under contract to fly cargo resupply missions for NASA, SpaceX's real goal is to create commercial space travel with the objective of eventually putting humans on Mars.
